Crate Alternative

July 1, 2009

Do you want to hide the fact that you have a dog? Now you can put him in a planter!

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all Leifers.com has come out with The NeoClassic pet retreat home. It’s about the size of a walk-in closet so you’ll need a big house. And if your house is that big then your dog could get lost in it and you won’t have to hide him!

Not just any poop bag -

Not just any poop bag -

Walk the Dog Pet Products offers biodegradable, flushable poop bags for the eco-consciencous. For the more descreet among us, they also have a Pet Poop Pouch (say that 10 times fast!) The little black pouch attaches to the leash or your belt. http://walkthedogmfg.com

If a little black bag is not your style, check out the Hugo Designer Dogwear Poop Bag Holders at poopbags.com. They are so adorable that we just had link to them! The baggies on this site are biodegradable or flushable, too.

Spring Cleaning

Spring Cleaning – part 1

Bed Head brand has come out with Pet Head shampoos and conditioners, etc. just in time for that springtime bath. The bottles are in a variety of fun colors (not sure about the products in the bottles) and have fun names like “fur ball” and “life’s an itch”.

Healthy teeth and gums help a dog stay healthy. Skip the trip to the doggie dentist. PetzLife has come out with an all natural product that you can just spray on your dogs teeth — NOT an easy thing to do – I tried it. Maybe there’s a better way? If you have one, let me know.

Spring Cleaning – part 2

The snow has melted. Now’s that dreaded time of year where you head off into the backyard and clean up a winter’s worth of old soggy poop – swearing that next year will be different as you wade through the muck. Maybe it can be. Check out the Pet Poo Converter. Or look into getting artificial turf. K9 Grass, for example, makes a product specifically for dogs. It’s always green and never needs mowing.

Doggie Slippers

Doggie Slippers - they’re just too cute. Definitely not something Fido would want the neighbors seeing him wear… Just too cute!

“Don’t be left holding the bag.”

January 9, 2009

Keep at least one hand free when you’re out walking your dog with this wonderful little contraption. It’s called the Port-A-Poo! It simply attaches to most leashes. What a great idea! Visit www.portapoo.com.

Stay Safe When It’s Dark Out

November 25, 2008

Well, it’s cold out again. And it’s dark – a lot! Here are a few safety ideas that you might find useful.

Bright Steps uses Fibralite, an illuminating fabric technology that allows pets and owners to be seen better in the dark. Check out www.fab4pets.com.

Visiglo uses battery power with options for flashy, neon or l.e.d. They offer only collars and leashes. www.visiglo.com

Another option is The Beacon from Ruff Wear which just clips onto the collar. It kind of looks like a small bulb. http://www.ruffwear.com/The-Beacon_2 or check out the under $5 Petsport USA’s Bling Bling Blinker at www.sitstay.com (click on collar and harness, then lighted and reflective). They have several varieties.

Stay safe!

Fence jumping

November 1, 2008

Does you dog have a tendency to jump over the fence that is supposed to keep him safe? Do you occassionally have a visitor in your yard you were not expecting because you have a fence? You may want to check out the Coyote Roller system at www.coyoteroller.com. It looks like a good idea. Let me know if you get one and what you think of it.

Cake for Fido

October 1, 2008

We have so many excuses to party these days. Why not one more? Although I’m sure many of you already celebrate your dog’s birthday or adoption anniversary with a trip to McD’s for a burger (plain, of course) there are now new ways to celebrate in a more traditional style with a home-made cake!

Ma Snax offers a bake-it-yourself (organic) cake mix for dogs (www.masnax.com). It does not come with candles. Of course, there are plenty of recipes on the web and many local doggie stores now also either stock small cakes or can have them special ordered for you.

But what would a celebration be without presents in dog-themed wrappings, no less? Check out www.printedpuppy.com or the Pet Party Services link on the home page.

Better than Water

September 1, 2008

Plain old regular water just isn’t good enough for some doggies. Here come the specialty drinks…

Fruit flavored Doggie Springs Vitamin Water (www.doggiesprings.com),
Electrolytes added HydroDog (www.hydrodog.com),
Hero (www.herodogwater.com) is flavored fortified water,
for the coffee lovers there’s Doggy Java (www.doggyjava.com),
and for those living a more holistic life, there’s Dog-Wa (www.dog-wa.com) which you need to mix yourself.

Keep your pals well hydrated.
